Facts About Pet Urine In Your Carpeting:

When urine is deposited on carpet, it doesn’t just stay on the surface—it penetrates deep into the fibers, contaminating the carpet backing and the flooring underneath. Often, pets will repeatedly urinate in the same spot, causing the odor to persist. The smell can even seep up from the subfloor, whether it’s concrete or wood, and spread through the tack strips and the walls behind the carpet.

As the urine dries, the liquid evaporates, leaving behind concentrated, pungent urine crystals that are more difficult to remove over time. A simple cleaning won’t get rid of this odor. Until now, there hasn’t been a product capable of fully removing stubborn urine odors. Chem-Dry’s P.U.R.T.® is different. When it comes into contact with the source of the odor, it triggers a powerful chemical reaction that breaks down the urine crystals and completely neutralizes the odor.

How P.U.R.T.® Works

  1. The source and severity of the odor are determined, then the carpet will be rinsed and extracted with a hot water rinse to remove the bulk of the urine crystals.
  2. In worst cases, the carpet is pulled back in the suspected areas to reveal the extent of the damage.*
  3. If necessary, the pad will be removed and replaced.*
  4. An odor blocking shellac may be applied to the sub-floor if determined necessary.*
  5. P.U.R.T.® will then be applied heavily to the tack strip, the sub floor, the baseboards and the carpet backing. It is necessary to apply this product heavily enough to dampen all areas affected by the urine. *
  6. Over the next 24 to 36 hours, the ingredients in P.U.R.T.® will react with the urine, and break down the odor causing components.
